Fisker Hybrid Karma Prototype Tested In California

Fisker Automotive isn't wasting any time getting its Karma plug-in hybrid on the road. Five months after pulling the wraps off the car at the Detroit auto show, it's flogging a test mule in Southern California. The pictures offer the best evidence yet that Henrik Fisker is serious about getting the $80,000 sedan into showrooms by the end of next year

The production Karma will feature a new technology called Q-Drive which has been developed exclusively for Fisker by Quantum Technologies. The new technology uses a small gasoline engine that turns the generator, which charges the lithium ion battery pack - this engine is rumoured to be a 1.4-liter engine sourced from Volkswagen

An optional roof-mounted solar panel will also be available as well as a regenerative braking system. The car is said to offer up to 50 miles of electric-only driving on a single charge and a claimed top speed of more than 125mph. The 0-60mph sprint should take just six seconds.
